Katie's Fundraising Efforts
Katie, along with other personalities (including Shannon Noll, Rod Stewart, Brett Lee, Lleyton Hewitt, Delta Goodrem and Bert Newton) applied their artistic talents to underwear for sale at auction to raise money for testicular cancer research. The link above is to the gallery of the final pieces that went to auction. Katie's piece (pictured - above) is now in my personal collection.

Katie's latest 'Bio'
This bio is from Katie's Facebook Fanpage, which I created early in 2009. The page is now jointly admin'd by myself and Katie:
"Since Australia's first reality TV show POPSTARS launched her professional career 10 years ago, Katie Underwood has already clocked up quite a resume in the entertainment industry. She began as a singer/songwriter with trance act TERRA FERMA (UK – Platipus Records), a singer in multi-platinum, award winning pop-group, BARDOT, singer/songwriter with Dance act DISCO MONTEGO and continues to work alongside Electro DJ/Producer ‘Mr Timothy’ aka T-FUNK.
She has been nominated for 2 ARIA awards (best video and best dance release) and 2 APRA awards (‘Beautiful’ and her solo single ‘Danger’), winning the APRA in 2003 for her best dance release, ‘Beautiful’. Both of her Dance releases, BEAUTIFUL and BE TOGETHER reached # 1 on the ARIA Club Chart.
Katie also worked as a TV presenter for Channel 7 on UNDERCOVER ANGELS, a 3-time guest presenter on THE PANEL with Channel 10, starred in musical theatre productions in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide and produced her own cabaret show DOLLS, DOVES & A DIVA for the Melbourne Comedy Festival in 2008. Katie won the Rainbow Award for Best Live Performance in 2006 for the Opening of the Midsumma Carnival in Melbourne and was the headline act at Sydney’s Sleazeball in the same year.
Now Katie is revelling in her long-time love of jazz, swing and blues and performs regularly with her band at venues around Melbourne. With a new jazz album - "Ain't Nobody's Baby" - launched late in 2009 and another dance release brewing, the best is yet to come for this unique and diverse performer.

Project Rundown

What is your topic?
Katie Underwood. Australian performer: primarily singer/songwriter.

Why did you choose it?
In September 2000 I started the first Katie Underwood fansite – ‘The UnderWood’. This was the first Katie Underwood website – predating the Official Site (www.katieunderwood.tv) by 2 years. Over the past 10 years I have liaised with other sites and media businesses to secure exclusive content, and worked as a one-man ‘Street Team’ to promote Katie, her music and her other projects.

How did you decide what to look for?
Having amassed the largest collection of Katie Underwood memorabilia on the planet I anticipated that there would not be much current information that would be suitable for the project. As well as searching for other sources of information I took the opportunity to create my own content using the Web 2.0 applications we covered in the course of our studies.

What was your required outcome?
To provide an introduction to my audience of the music of Katie Underwood, and the various changes and projects that have influenced her throughout her career: a multimedia biography.

What retrieval strategies did you apply?
As Katie’s #1 Fan I had already collected and compiled many examples of Katie’s work, and some biographic information. Much of the material I displayed was either Primary or Secondary, and some of it was directly from the source – from Katie herself. I had not, however, created citations that would allow me to acknowledge to source material for information that was not my work. My strategy was twofold:
1) to see what information was currently available from other sources, and
2) to create new information from my existing exclusive collection

Which of the following tools were relevant?
a) Print - Magazines: Bardot Magazine, Q, FHM, Black & White, Adore; Other: Flyers, Postcards + CDs
b) Non print - Google: Basic + Advanced Search, Bing & Dogpile - for researching other sources.
Blogger (to create this Blog), Slide, Flikr, Facebook

How did you analyse / sort the information?
Information was divided according to the need for citation: an image database, and a moving image database were not hard – but a Blog with an RSS feed proved somewhat of a challenge.

Did you need to reassess or follow up?
I needed to do a little bit of 'tweaking' - reorganising my posts so that the information would display in the correct order.

How have you recorded and managed your information?
I have recorded and managed my information into this Blog (http://ktexperience.blogspot.com), incorporating other Web 2.0 resources: Slide (www.slide.com), Flikr (www.flikr.com), Youtube (www.youtube.com), Facebook (www.facebook.com), my Katie Fansite: 'the UnderWood' (www.geocities.com/underwood42) and the Official Katie Underwood website (www.katieunderwood.tv).

Discuss and evaluate the report

While still far from what I would like to have 'published' for fans (and potential fans) to view I believe I have achieved my objective. This Blog provides an introduction to, and overview of, Katie Underwood - including some examples of her various music styles. It also provides links to other sources and citations that allows readers to review other material, should they so wish.
